Data Centre Recycling
Decommissioning and recycling of data centre equipment. Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra.
Data Centre Recycling covers the full scope of decommissioned data hall and server room equipment: servers, storage, networking, racks, power distribution, UPS systems and cooling-related e-waste. Electronics Recycler services Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra and is a bulk recycler. Complimentary pickup is available for qualifying volumes; we will work with you to determine if you qualify.
What We Recycle
We handle end-of-life servers (rack and blade), storage arrays, network switches and routers, cabling, PDUs, UPS units, and associated cooling and monitoring equipment. Our service extends to businesses and data centre operators across each capital — including Sydney’s Macquarie Park and Silverwater, Melbourne’s Docklands and Scoresby, Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley and Murarrie, and Canberra’s Fyshwick and Mitchell. We have public drop-off options at each location for smaller quantities; for full hall decommissions we typically arrange bulk pickup.
Recyclable Components in Data Centre Equipment
Data centre gear contains substantial recoverable material. Recycling supports resource recovery and diverts e-waste from landfill. Typical recyclable materials include:
- Metals: Steel in racks and server chassis; aluminium in heat sinks and enclosures; copper in power cables, busbars and transformers; precious metals in circuit boards and connectors.
- Plastics: Cable sheathing, bezels, ducting. Sorted and recycled where possible.
- Circuit boards: Server motherboards, network cards, controllers — processed for metal recovery and compliant handling of hazardous components.
- Power and UPS: Copper, steel, aluminium; lead acid or lithium batteries (see our Lead Acid Battery Recycling service).
- Cabling: Copper and aluminium; plastic insulation recovered or disposed of appropriately.
- Cooling equipment: Fans, chillers and HVAC components may contain metals, plastics and refrigerants — we coordinate with our Bulk Air Conditioning Recycling capability where relevant.
Data security is critical. We offer Hard Drive and Data Storage Secure Destruction with certificates of destruction for all data-bearing devices.
Bulk Volume and Free Pickup
We focus on bulk data centre recycling. Free pickup is contingent on sufficient volume. For row or hall decommissions we typically qualify; we will work with you to confirm based on quantity and location. Smaller batches can be dropped off at our Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Canberra facilities. We provide documentation for compliance and ESG reporting.
Who Uses This Service
Data centre operators, colocation providers, enterprise IT teams, AI and HPC facilities, and defence or government data halls. We predominantly service Australian business and work with operators across our four cities and their suburbs. Our process is designed for efficiency and chain-of-custody from collection to recycling.
Next Steps
Share your location (city and suburb), scale of decommission (e.g. number of racks or pallets) and whether you need secure data destruction. We will confirm pickup eligibility and timing. Request a consultation or review our IT Recycling service for general IT equipment.
